About the authors
Carla Pretorius
Carla has been involved with teaching undergraduate Chemistry courses for over 8 years in South Africa. Never trained to teach, she enrolled in the MET program as a way to pursue her passion for teaching and specifically the incorporation of technology in her classes. The program has been a fantastic journey with many unexpected interests uncovered along the way with one being an interest in (wouldn’t you guess it) game-based learning. She hopes to use the MET as a platform to advance her career in new directions. Carla enjoys reading when she can, listening to podcasts and exploring the local area. |
Brian Ham
Brian is both a Technology Integration Specialist and an Elementary Music teacher in Saudi Arabia, and part of his job is to train staff on ways to use technology in the classroom. He is hoping to gain a stronger understanding of games-based learning in order to help his colleagues engage students more effectively. |
Greg Regehr
Greg has been a teacher for 5 years and is currently a middle school teacher in Abbotsford, British Columbia. He mainly teaches math and science 6 but also teaches the Tech Ed Program, Robotics and Coding. He loves technology and believes that when students are trained on how to use technology effectively amazing things can happen. The MET program has been an incredible journey and has deepened his desire to learn how to use technology well. Greg enjoys spending time with his family, reading, photography, playing games and going on hikes. |
Jessica Shea
Jessica has been a teacher for seven years and is currently a grade 5 teacher at Queen of Peace Middle School in Happy Valley - Goose Bay, Labrador. Prior to this, Jessica worked as a K-12 Instructional Resource teacher as well as a primary teacher. Jessica completed her Bachelor of Education with a focus in Physical Education at Memorial University in 2013 and is now in her last year of the MET program at UBC. Growing up in Newfoundland, Jessica loves being outdoors, playing sports, and being with friends. |
